The .SE country-code domain name extension was launched in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration procedure was pretty restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were booked. Persons could obtain only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations could buy a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.
